Wheelchair Challenge

For a number of years, the Wheelchair challenge websites were developed on the Convio (now Blackbaud Luminate) platform, because of the monetary transaction capabilities.  However, with the increasing capabilities of open-source content management systems (CMS), the client wanted to move their website onto an open source model.

We chose Drupal for it’s strong and robust security capabilities, plus it is also a platform that some of the staff had already had experience working in for updating content.  The theme was built from scratch, with the exception of some ready-made Drupal plugins that required some modifying, such as the featured slider.  The theme also needed to have a more modern, clean look-and-feel.    The theme had to be tested many times onto tablets and smartphones, to ensure that it was mobile-friendly and responsive, before adding the content.

Less than 2 months after the website had been completed, it was announced that the event would be cancelled.  The original site was shut down and only this mockup exists with a Lorem Ipsum content.

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex; you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.”

“I think if you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next.”
