Tax Audit Solutions wanted to try a new style of marketing, which was a whiteboard animation. This sort of animation has been a hot way of doing animation, as you’ll see it almost everywhere – most of it is in an “Explainer” format.
The biggest challenge was the using of an arm and a hand to draw the images, using a tonne of masks, as well as additional hands to do little tricks like pushing up words and wiping large images off the screen.
After trying out some experiments, the folks and Tax Audit Solutions loved it. Then we worked together to create a storyboard.
Then came the animation. It was a combination of a tonne of work in After Effects, along with creating the rest of the animation in Vegas Pro.
The drawings were done first on paper as sketches, then cleaned up by black pen before scanning them and touching them up in Photoshop.
After constructing the entire animation, I worked on a voice over script. Some lines had to be omitted in order to keep within the animation’s 1 minute limited.
Rodney, having constructed the entire animated video, decided to do a couple of takes of the voice over with his own voice. It turns out the best way to do a voice over is with energetic emotional intonation.
The result is a whiteboard animation that’s meant to help calm the nerves of Canadians who are facing tax audit issues.
