Building Success: 3D Modelling and Illustration Bring Lego Land to Life
Creating a 3D illustration for a client is no small task, especially when it involves intricate details and numerous revisions. For the annual report of SCI Ontario, we explored several ideas, but the Lego land scene seemed to be the perfect representation of the theme of rebuilding an organization using Lego as a metaphor.
However, transforming this idea into reality required an immense amount of computing power. With thousands of objects, vertices, and over half a million points, the scene was incredibly complex. It included image maps, radiosity, and clean anti-aliasing. To produce a high-quality 3D illustration, we had to apply point reduction to the project.
As the project progressed, it became clear that the modelling and illustration required numerous revisions. We worked closely with SCI Ontario, going back and forth until we achieved the desired result. Despite the sleepless nights and countless cups of coffee, we remained committed to the project’s success.
Creating a 3D illustration requires skill, knowledge, and patience. It’s no wonder that Hollywood movies use millions of vertices and points on object models to produce their special effects. In many ways, our project was similar to a Hollywood production, with each detail meticulously planned and executed.
In the end, the 3D illustration was a hit at the SCI Ontario annual general meeting of that year. The intricate details, the use of colour, and the precise execution of the Lego land scene made the illustration an integral part of the annual report. Our team’s hard work paid off, and we were proud to be part of such a successful project.
Despite the challenges and the intensity of the project, we were happy to work with SCI Ontario. Our commitment to our clients and our dedication to creating high-quality work is what drives us. We believe that every project is an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to push the limits of what is possible. Creating the 3D illustration for SCI Ontario’s annual report was a memorable experience, one that we will never forget.

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex; you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.”
“I think if you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next.”
