Hospital Signage – WAYFINDING SIGNAGE
In 2013, both organizations had revamped their branding and logos and were in the midst of rebranding the rest of their signage. There was confusion amongst many visitors to the campus, as to where to find which organization was located. Many times visitors would end up in the wrong location or were confused as to which organization was which. People were being pointed in the wrong direction.
The outdoor signage needed a new facelift, so we had to coordinate and collaborate with UHN in order to accomplish this task.
The next area that needed to be revised was the Sutherland building’s directory. This was one of the most challenging designs, as we had to check to make sure that all the room numbers were correct.
Another area that needed signage was the Employment Resource Centre, which did not have any indication as to where to find them. This would also mean using the Employment Ontario branding.
Various other signs were just a white sign the logo with the website url below it.
The coordination was a huge task, as all the signage needed to be updated prior to the end of the fiscal year, so the deadline was very aggressive. We worked with two vendors and also needed to know what our budget was before proceeding with producing the signs. All the signs were up before the deadline, and all the departments in both organizations were receiving the correct visitors. The Employment Centre was also finally receiving the correct visitors and employment placements started to go up. A 95% improvement from where they were beforehand.
It was a welcome relief to both organizations and were very thankful that everything could finally continue, business as usual but better.

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex; you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.”
“I think if you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next.”
