Spinal Cord Injury Ontario Golf Tournament: Bringing the Event to Life Online
Spinal Cord Injury Ontario hosted a series of golf tournaments from 2013-2018, and their previous websites, developed in Convio (now Blackbaud Luminate), were basic forms with minimal branding. The challenge was to create a more captivating and mobile-responsive website that would engage donors and sponsors, enabling them to donate or sponsor the event conveniently from their mobile devices.
In order to achieve this, we adopted an illustrative approach and designed the website with imagery that captured the fun and lively atmosphere of golfing. The user interface was streamlined to enable a smooth and hassle-free donation and sponsorship process.
Building a mobile-responsive website can be tricky, and in some cases, a significant amount of CSS and PHP files need to be modified to ensure that the website is mobile-friendly. However, despite these challenges, we were able to create a website that was optimized for mobile devices, which made it easy for people to donate or sponsor the event even while on-the-go.
The new website helped increase donations and engagement significantly, and at all hours of the day. It successfully conveyed the competitive and family-friendly spirit of the golf event, which was well received by donors and sponsors.
Our innovative approach to designing the website was a departure from the previous basic forms-based websites. The illustrative design and mobile responsiveness enhanced the user experience, making it easier for users to donate or sponsor the event from their mobile devices. Overall, the new website design achieved its goal of capturing the excitement of the golf event, while also raising more funds and increasing engagement.

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex; you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.”
“I think if you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next.”
